Recruitment firms have seen an average increase of 25-30 per cent in resumes in the last few months as students in the final semester are exploring all means of getting a job.
“We see this happening because of the slowdown. The students are putting in effort wherever they think it will help,” said Ms Surabhi Mathur Gandhi, General Manager, TeamLease.
Ms Sumeet Singh, Head, Marketing and Communications, Naukri.com, said even in normal times the number of resumes increase during this time, but this year there has been a considerable jump.
However, the companies continue to be cautious about hiring and many top companies have put a freeze on hiring. Experts say that the economic crunch is now affecting job portals as companies are blocking recruitment. Therefore, job portals will now have to make an extra effort.
However, amidst the gloom, there is still some activity as some mid-sized companies as well as niche players are now hiring because they feel they have better bargaining power.
Looking at the other side of the picture job portals are seeing a positive development where companies are switching over from placement agencies to portals. Even government companies are looking forward to job portals. Many sectors like agro and pharma that have not been in job portals but are now joining them because of the job crunch in other sectors.
